About
A quiet home for a loud set of ideas
Laws of Power: 48 Life Quotes is an iPhone app built around the 48 laws of power. It exists because the ideas are genuinely useful and the way most people encounter them is not: screenshots, out-of-context quotes and an endless feed. Attention is the scarce thing here, and a list of 48 competing ideas delivered all at once competes badly with everything else on your phone.
So the app does one boring, effective thing. It puts a single law where you already look first — your Lock Screen, and a Home Screen widget. One a day. No feed, no streaks to maintain, nothing to scroll past. If you want the whole collection immediately, it is there; the daily rhythm is just the default, not a restriction.
How each entry is written
Every one of the 48 entries has the same four parts, and the fourth is the one that matters most:
- The law itself — the statement, as it is usually expressed.
- What it actually means — a plain-English reading for ordinary life rather than a courtroom or a battlefield.
- Where you would have seen it — an example of the law happening in a normal week: a group chat, a spreadsheet, a kitchen.
- A practice — one small thing to try today. This is the difference between having read about power and having noticed it working.
The entries are written to be argued with. Several of the laws describe behaviour you would not want done to you, and the app says so where it is true. Read as descriptions rather than instructions, they are a way of seeing the mechanics of a room you are already standing in — and of deciding, deliberately, what you will do about it.
What the app is not
Laws of Power is independent commentary on principles popularised in The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene and Joost Elffers. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the authors or their publishers, and it does not reproduce the book.
It is not a substitute for the original work and does not attempt to be one. The principles discussed here are popularised in The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene and Joost Elffers, and that book is worth reading directly.
